Tampa Bay’s Racing: Bauer’s Bets

 By Bob Bauer

Today’s nine race program starts off “Festival Preview” weekend. First Post time is 12:15 PM.

In addition the the usual racing, GOLFFEST, a two day extravaganza of all things related to Golf  swings into action at noon. Admission is free. Golfers have been patiently awaiting the 2022 renewal, as last year’s show was cancelled because of the Covid 19 virus. For details, go to: https://www.tampabaydowns.com/golf/golf-fest-2021

Tomorrow has an eleven race card, including four Stakes events. The $250,000 Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes, a prep for sophomores with Derby (Tampa & Kentucky) hopes, is the feature.

Today’s play is in RACE 6, Post time 2:43. Live coverage on RadioStPete.com, including the call from track announcer Jason Beem, begins at 2:40.

A well matched group of four year-olds and up will sprint five and one-half furlongs under $25,000 Claiming conditions.

OIL MONEY (8) has a pair of angles in his favor with these rivals. He gets class relief, dropping back to today’s reasonable level. His last outing was with $75,000 foes, the highest in his career.

Also, he has the early pace advantage and figures to get a comfortable lead. The turnback from six panels will be a benefit today. He makes his second start for trainer Jon Arnett, who wins at 21% in this situation. Journeyman Rocco Bowen has the return mount.

THE BET:  $20 to win on OIL MONEY (4) ($20) and a $2 three horse exacta box ($12) with that one and IMPERIAL KING (2) and HE’S SMOKIN NOW (6) 2,4,6.  Total Bet $32   GOOD LUCK!

PREVIOUS RESULTS:  2/9/22   The win bet ran second, missed the exacta. Lost $32, the bankroll is now $917.70
