Travers Preview: Bob Bauer’s Bets

Post time is 6:12 p.m. for Saturday’s Travers Stakes (Grade 1).  Analysis by our handicapper Bob Bauer is below. This afternoon we also will have coverage of several undercard stakes races

Bob Bauer, HorseRacingFLA Handicapper

.Saratoga’s mid-summer Derby runs through ESSENTIAL QUALITY (2), no doubt. This Brad Cox trainee is the one to beat, boasting seven wins from eight attempts with over $3.5 million in the bank. Top jock Luis Saez who is leading the riders race by ten tallies retains the mount. Expect this worthy favorite to go in the gate odds-on.

There are a pair of rivals who could upset here if given the opportunity.

KEEPMEINMIND (3), gave the favorite all he could handle in the Jim Dandy Stakes, the traditional Travers prep, only missing by a half-length. He has been impressive on the training track and is worth a bet at 6 to 1 on the morning line.

DYNAMIC ONE (4) was the winner of the local Curlin Stakes after a two month break for the powerful Pletcher outfit. He ran a lifetime best speed figure that day and bigger prizes may be ahead. Also 6 to 1 on the morning line.

THE BET  $10 to win on KEEPMEINMIND (3) and a $5 exacta box with ESSENTIAL QUALITY (2) and DYNAMIC ONE (4).  2,3,4,

TOTAL BET $40 GOOD LUCK!!
