Gulfstream Resumes Friday With Ten Races; Mandatory Rainbow 6 Payout on Saturday

HRFLA Staff Report

Gulfstream Park will begin three straight days of  racing on Friday–starting a weekend that will include Saturday’s  mandatory payout on the Rainbow 6 jackpot/carryover.

If the carryover extends into Saturday, the Rainbow 6 pool likely will be between $3 million and $4 million.

On Friday, the Hallandale Beach, Fla,, track will have nine races  and first post of 2:00 p.m.

The Friday  carryover on the Rainbow 6 will be $432,027. The 20 cents per combination-only bet will be on races four to nine with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

If Friday’s Rainbow 6 is not taken down (i.e. just one ticket with all six winning horses)  the carryover will continue and likely will be about $600,000 on Saturday.

In that situation, Gulfstream history indicates that approximately $3 million will  be bet on  the Rainbow 6. That is about ten timers the  amount that  would be bet on a day without a mandatory payout.

The Rainbow 6 jackpot is made up of the entire coming-in carryover  plus 80 percent of the day’s new Rainbow 6 bets.

On Saturday, Gulfstream will pay  it all out regardless of the number of tickets with all six winning horses.

On non-mandatory days, such as Friday, Gulfstream pays out the jackpot only if there is just one ticket with all six winners.

Otherwise on non-mandatory days, Gulfstream takes out 20 percent of the day’s new Rainbow 6 bet. It divides 56  percent among tickets with the most winners (usually six) and adds 24 percent to the carryover.

The carryover has grown because Gulfstream has gone thirteen straight race days without the jackpot payoff requirement of just one ticket with all six winning  horses.

On Saturday, Gulfstream will have twelve races with first post at 12:20 p.m. The Rainbow  6 will be on races seven to twelve, with the sequence scheduled to begin at 3:23 p.m.
The fourth race is the $75,000 Not Surprising, at one mile on turf for -year olds. It is his weekend’s only stakes race at Gulfstream.
On Sunday, Gulfstream will have ten races with first  post of 12:50 p.m. There will be a new Rainbow 6 pool, beginning on the fifth race.
