Tampa Bay Downs: A Look at the Sixth Race

By Bob Bauer

Tampa Bay Downs has a nine-race card today, New Year’s Day. Conditions are Fast and Firm.

Today’s play in Race 6, Post time scheduled for 3:15 PM, is a good example of the need for situational handicapping. The original field of seven Four year-olds and up, at six panels, under $12,500 Optional Claiming conditions, has been reduced to five after late scratches. My choice was declared, the dynamics are now changed and we need to land on a new runner. SIX SIDER (2) may be the one at 8/1 on the morning line. This seven year-old gelding ships in for trainer Cody Axmaker after a good second (by a neck) in his last race and has logged a trio of decent works in Tampa. He has the early pace ability to win this if he gets the right trip. Tune in to RadioStPete online at 3:13 to find out how he goes.  As  usual, track announcer Richard  Grunder will have the call.

THE BET  $10 win and place on SIXCIDER (2) and a $2 exacta box with HIGH FIVE COTTON (7) and DOODLE HOOPER (1).  1,2,7. Total $32            GOOD LUCK !!  HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

PREVIOUS RESULTS  12/30  Lost $32, the bankroll is now $1024.40.
