Authentic Wins Breeders’ Cup Classic

 Authentic led at every  call and beat his stablemate Improbable by 2 1/2 lengths in Saturday’s $6 million Breeders’  Cup Classic (Grade 1) at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky.

Bob Baffert trains the 3-year-old Authentic and the 4-year-old Improbable for different owners. Authentic is Baffert’s record fourth Breeders’ Cup Classic winner.

Authentic was the third betting choice, at  4-1, and Improbable was the second choice at 3-1 in the ten-horse field.

Tiz the Law, the 2-1 favorite. finished sixth. His wins this year included the Florida Derby (Grade 1) at Gulfstream Park and the Belmont Stakes (Grade 1) at Belmont Park.

Tiz the Law was one of several Florida-connected horses that turned in disappointing performances in Breeders’ Cup races on Saturday.

Among them was Swiss Skydiver, who finished seventh in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff (Grade 1). She won the Gulfstream Park Oaks (Grade 2) on March 28 and went on to win two graded stakes for 3-year-old fillies as well as  the Preakness Stakes (Grade 1) in which she was the only filly.

Monomoy Girl, the even-money favorite. won the Distaff–her fifth victory in a row and tenth in her last eleven starts.
