Gulfstream Resumes Live Racing Wednesday; Fountain of Youth Heads Saturday Card

After being dark on Monday and Tuesday, Gulfstream Park will have  a ten-race card on Wednesday with first post of 1:00 p.m.


The only carryover is $209,566 on the Rainbow 6.


That  20-cents per combination only bet will be on races five through ten with the sequence scheduled to start at 3:03  p.m.


Gulfstream  this week will have its regular Wednesday to Sunday live  racing schedule.


On Saturday, Gulfstream will have its annual Fountain of Youth card.  The Hallandale Beach Fla.,track will have nine stakes races–all Grade 2  or  Grade 3.


Entries will be out on Wednesday afternoon


The feature Fountain of Youth (Grade 2) is 1 1/16 miles on dirt for 3-year-olds. 


Later on Tuesday, we will have the first in our series of previews on the Fountain of Youth and other Saturday stakes races.


The  Fountain of Youth is a second-round points scoring race for berths in the 1 1/4 mile Kentucky Derby Grade 1), to be run May 2 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.


The  first  four finishers in the “Fountain” will earn 50, 20, 10 and 5  qualifying points,  respectively, for the Kentucky Derby.  It is likely that between 30 and 40 points will be he cutoff for getting into the Kentucky Derby field.


The Florida Derby (Grade 1), at Gulfstream on March  28, will have Kentucky Derby qualiiyng points of 100, 40, 20 and ten.

On Wednesday, we will have the first in our series of previews on the Fountain of Youth and other Saturday stakes races.
