Closing Day of Meet at Gulfstream Park Sunday

Gulfstream Park will run it’s last races of the Summer Meet Sunday. It will be race day 54 on the meet that started July 1st. Next Wednesday, October 2, live racing resumes at Gulfstream Park West, on the Calder Race Course and Casino property located in Miami Gardens, about 8 miles West of Gulfstream Park. Sunday’s race card has 11 races listed, no stakes, and a 1:15 PM first post.

As reported yesterday, the Rainbow 6 wager was cashed as a Jackpot win for one lucky bettor. That reset the carryover to zero on Saturday’s races. The third leg of the Florida Sires Stakes was run Saturday, with $75,000, $150,000, and $400,000 purses in the 7 stakes races.

Three favorites won their stakes races, and a pair of 17:1 and 20:1 winners in two stakes led to a nice Pick 5 payoff. Marshall Eddies (20:1) won the Mr. Steele stakes  by a half-length over Grand Journey in the 10th, and Great Sister Diane (17.6:1) won by 1-1/4 lengths in the 12th race – Monroes Stakes; Hogan’s Holiday the favorite finished a distant 9th.

Here are the late race wagering payoff’s:
Late Pick 4 paid: $672.40
Late Pick 5 paid: $25,670.05
Late Pick 5 (4 of 5); paid $112.85
Rainbow 6: $901.86 paid to 67 correct tickets. *Note: the Rainbow 6 was paid on a 5 of 6 basis, since no bettor had the correct wager on all six races. Race 6 kicks off the Rainbow 6 Sunday with a 4:00 p.m. post time. The carryover is $26,090.

Sunday’s racing is under a mandatory payout on the Late Pick 4, Pick 5, Rainbow 6 and Super Hi-5 wagers. The pools minus track takeout, plus any carryover coming into Sunday will be paid to the correct tickets winning the wager.
Stay tuned to Horse Racing FLA this next week as we transition over the Gulfstream West race track reporting.
