Heavy rain has been falling in Louisville, Ky., on Friday morning and it appears that rain will be a factor for Friday’s Kentucky Oaks day card and for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby Day card at Churchill Downs.
First post is 10:30 a.m. for Friday’s 13-race card at Churchill.
The Kentucky Oaks (Grade 1) for 3-year-old fillies is the 11th race with scheduled post of 6:12 p.m.
The Weather Channel forecast is for a rain chance of 15 percent during most of Friday afternoon.
On Saturday, Churchill will have 14 races with first post of 10:30 a.m.
The Kentucky Derby is the 12th race with scheduled post of 6:50 p.m.
The Weather Channel forecast is for the rain chance to range between 55 percent and 80 percent during racing hours.
Thus. many handicappers will still be making decisions late in he afternoon for the Kentucky Derby.
“Which horse will win?” could depend largely on whether the rain has stopped and how well the track is drying out.
In addition to their own live racing, Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs on Friday and Saturday will have simulcast betting on each other’s races and on the full cards at Churchill Downs.
We will have coverage of this weekend’s racing at Churchill Downs and at the Florida tracks on this web site and on our blog which may be accessed on the menu bar at the top of this web site.
