Gulfstream’s 2019 Fountain of Youth stakes races are planned for Saturday, where 126 listed entrants will be saddled with dreams of some big purses, and for some – to garner points for the Kentucky Derby in May.
Nine stakes races start with race #4 at 1:00 PM; the Palm Beach Stakes, and culminate with race 14. The $400,000 ExpressBet Fountain of Youth will be run near 5:30 PM in race 13. It’s 1-1/16 miles on the dirt track with 11 entries listed.
Friday’s racing included 11 races, with just 3 favorites in the winners circle, and a couple 16:1 and 10:1 winners late that spelled a major payday for some bettors.
Late Pick 4 paid $455.80 (10:1, 3.5:1, 3.6:1, and 1.6:1)
Late Pick 5 paid $12,453.75
Rainbow 6 paid $29,667 (5 winners)
Bettors added $264,959 to the daily pool on Rainbow 6 wagering, and the carryover grows to $550,061 for Saturday. No other carryovers are listed.
In 2018’s Fountain of Youth, $940,000 was wagered on the Rainbow, so adding $1 million to the carryover Saturday would result in a $1.35 million jackpot if hit. Total wagering handle was $28.5 million last year, with the same number of races (14).
