HorseRacingFLA Staff Report
Tampa Bay Downs has cancelled Friday’s live racing card and morning training because of ongoing heavy rain and anticipation of high winds in the Tampa Bay area.
Officials said the Oldsmar, Fla., track will remain open Friday for simulcast wagering and no-limits action in The Silks Poker Room.
“We’re disappointed to lose a day of racing, but our No. 1 priority is the safety of our horses, jockeys and fans,” said Peter Berube, the track’s Vice President-General Manager. “Proper track maintenance is virtually impossible with the type of weather we’ve been getting.
Berube added: “We appreciate the patience and understanding of our fans and look forward to putting on a full 10-race card Saturday, when sunshine is expected to return.”
He said there is a possibility the lost date could be made up later in the meeting or by adding races to existing dates.
On Saturday, Tampa Bay has a ten-race card with first post of 12:25 p.m.
This weekend, it will add Sunday to its live schedule, with nine races and first post of 12:25 p.m.
Tampa Bay will then begin a four day racing schedule–with live racing each Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday through May 5.
