Sunday’s racing at Gulfstream will include 12 races with a 12:00 noon first post, and 5 two-year-olds racing at the Hallandale, Florida track.
All horses celebrate their birthdays January 1st, so this late crop of 51 two year old runners’ last race is no doubt today. That makes for some tough handicapping. The sloppy, rainy conditions beginning in race 3 Saturday made for difficult on-track viewing also.
Saturday’s action saw 11 races and 108 starters competing for $775,000 in purses with 5 graded stakes. Five favorites won, so the payouts were decent: Late Pick 4, $712, Late Pick 5, $3,726, and Rainbow 6, $8,477 (17 winners) . Sixty runners in the Rainbow sequence. The program numbers were 1-7-5-8-7-1.
The sole carryover today will be the Rainbow 6 at $368,766 beginning in race 6 near 2:32 PM Eastern time.
