Sunday was a rainy and wet day at the Hallandale, Fla. race track, as tropical storm Gordon crossed over Florida, dampening our national holiday, and wagering enthusiasts also.
Gulfstream Park ran their 12 race card, with all 5 of the turf races changed to the dirt, which was listed as sloppy sealed the entire day. Thirteen horses were scratched from the races Sunday.
The 50 starters in the Rainbow-6 wager, along with two surprise winners, made for a nice $20,523 payoff for two bettors. Five horses were scratched for that wager – races 7-12).
Seatbelt (11:1) won by a neck over Pegasall (4:5) in the 10th, and Paoli (9:1) bested AllinGirl (1.7:1) in the twelfth race.
The late Pick-5 paid a handsome $10,235.
Total all-souces wagering handle was $5.261 million, down 20% from last year’s Holiday.
