The single winner banked $60,708, comprised of the Friday carryover of $10,436, and new bets of $75,901, minus the 20% takeout.
There were 52 runners in the six races, and Mr. Morningtar’s win at 14:1 in the seventh was the noticable longshot of the last 6 races. No favorite-odds horses made it into the winner’s circle races 7-12. Three off-turf races made it a bit harder to handicap also.
Our takeaway here: for the individual bettor, these smaller jackpot days – when the carryovers are under $100,000; it’s an advantage to use them. Why, smaller pools of money wagered, less persons wagering, and a lack of pooled syndicate dollars to lessen your odds.
Sunday’s racing gets underway at 12:45 PM with 12 races scheduled. There are no carryovers on the pick-4, pick-5 and Super Hi-5 bets Sunday.
