Phantom Ro, Go Astray Win Sire Stakes Openers

Phantom Ro and Go Astray both led almost the entire route on Saturday in winning the opening legs of the FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes Series at Gulfstream Park.

Phantom Ro beat Dunk by 2-¾ lengths in the $100,000 Dr. Fager Stakes at six furlongs on dirt for 2-year-old males.

Go Astray beat Awesome Mass by 4-¾ lengths in the $100,000 Desert Vixen Stakes at six furlongs on dirt for 2-year-old fillies.

The Sire Stakes races are restricted to sons and daughters of Florida-registered stallions whose owners have nominated them for the program. The Sire Stakes program is coordinated by the Ocala-based Florida Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association.

Phantom Ro was 5-1 and Dunk was the 1-2 favorite in the eight-horse field. He won in 1:10.60 on the track listed as fast.

Edgard Zayas rode the colt Phantom Ro for trainer Ralph Nicks.

Phantom Ro is owned by Raroma Stable. He was bred by Raroma Stable, Robert Dedovic and Martha Fisher.

Desert Vixen

Go Astray was 10-1 and Awesome Mass was the 7-10 favorite in an eight-horse field. She won in 1:11.08.

Jose Batista rode Go Astray for trainer Angel Rodriguez. She was bred and is owned by Ramiro Medina.
