Manchurian High Back for Mecke at Gulfstream

HorseRacingFLA Staff Report

Manchurian High, a two-time winner of a major  stakes race at Gulfstream Park, will make his  first start of 2017 on Sunday in the $50,000 Mecke Handicap at Gulfstream.

The Mecke is 1 1/8 miles on turf for 3-year-olds and up. It is the ninth race on an 11-race Sunday card.

First  post is 1:15 p.m.

The carryover is $114.209 on the Rainbow 6. It is on races six to eleven.

Conditions are listed as fast and firm. All six of the odd numbered races are on turf, with the rail at 115 feet.

The Weather Channel forecast is for a ten percent chance of rain during racing hours.

During the afternoon, we will have  coverage on our blog which can be accessed on the menu bar at the top of the home age of this Web site.

That will include a preview  and coverage of the Mecke, which has nine entrants.

Manchurian High, a 9-year-old gelding, has what must be called the best back class in the field.

He won the Sunshine Millions Turf, restricted  to Florida breds, in 2015 and in 2016. Since  then, he has two second place finishes in four starts.

Emisael Jaramillo will ride  Manchurian High for trainer and owner Lilli Kurtinecz.

Diaz, who brings in a three-race win streak, and Spring Up, a winner in three of his last four starts, are among others that should attract considerable support from bettors. However, none of those wins were in stakes races.
