Gettin’ Out Alive Feature Starts Nov. 2

On Wednesday, Nov. 2, HorseRacingFLA will introduce Gettin’ Out Alive as a regular feature. Here’s the page to access it.

Editor Jim Freer will handicap the last race of the day at Gulfstream Park West (Calder) and later at Gulfstream Park.

He will recommend an exacta box, and sometimes another bet, and will keep track of our results.

Here’s why we think this feature will offer some fun and value:

The last race is almost always a handicapping challenge at a Gulfstream-run meets. It is the last leg of the Rainbow 6 and of the Late Pick 5, and Gulfstream wants bettors to go deep to build up the pools.

Very often, the last race is a claiming race on turf with 10 or more runners and no clear favorite. Our informal tracking shows that an inordinate number of these races have a long shot winning or otherwise hitting the board – thus producing big exacta and trifectas payouts.

Those potential rewards are especially enticing as a get-back if you have just been knocked out of the Rainbow 6 or Late Pick 5. You may just be too tired to do any re-handicapping and could use some guidance.

Or you may have just started your handicapping day, via computer or TV, and don’t have enough time for your own thorough review of the Gulfstream nightcap.

Now, we are there to help.

We have handicapped the race, including charts and replays, and sometimes with insights from colleagues.

We will generally post Gettin’ Out Alive around 3:00 p.m. Eastern time. That will allow us to factor in scratches and track conditions and give you time to include our advice in your handicapping.

Good luck on Gettin’ Out  Alive, and logging off hopefully with some more money in your account or leaving the track with more money in your pocket.
