Gulfstream: Fast and Firm for 11 Sunday Races

Conditions are fast for the dirt and firm for the turf on Sunday’s 11-race card at Gulfstream Park, with first post  of 1:15 p.m.

The featured ninth race is an allowance/optional claimer at one mile on turf for Florida-bred fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.  The purse is $37,000 and the claiming price is $12,000.

Summers Back and Bonita are among likely favorites in the 11-horse field.

Bonita is coming off a third place finish on June 11 in the Christmas Past Stakes at 1 1/16 miles on turf at Gulfstream on June 11. Miguel Vasquez has the mount for trainer Chad Stewart.

Summers Back has three wins in optional claiming races on turf at Gulfstream this year. Leonel Reyes will ride for trainer Francisco  D’Angelo.

Six races (the odd numbered ones)  are scheduled  for turf.

The Weather Channel forecast is for  a 15 percent chance  of rain during racing hours in Hallandale Beach where Gulfstream is located.

The carryover is $111,233.84 on the Rainbow 6 on the day’s sixth through eleventh races.

There is a $3,026.41 Super Hi-5 carryover for Sunday’s first race.
