Cathryn Sophia Wins Kentucky Oaks

With the winner Cathryn Sophia leading –the way, horses  that ran at Gulfstream Park this past winter took three of the first four places Friday in the $1 million Kentucky Oaks (Grade 1)  at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

 Cathryn Sophia took the lead and commamd entering the stretch and went on to beat the late-running Land Over  Sea by 2 ¾ lengths in the 1 1/8 mile dirt stakes for 3-year-old fillies.

Land Over Sea, who did not race at Gulfstream, finished a neck ahead of Lewis Bay. Go Maggie Go came in fourth, a head behind Lewis Bay.

Javier  Castellano rode Cathryn Sophia,  the  9-2 second betting choice in the 14-horse field. She won in 1:50.53 on the track listed as fast.

John Servis trains Cathryn Sophia, who won for the fifth time in six career starts.

At Gulfstream this year, Cathryn Sophia won the seven-furlong Forward Gal (Grade 2) and the one mile Davona Dale (Grade 2).

Lewis Bay finished second in the Davona Dale  Go Maggie Go won the one mile Gulfstream Park Oaks (Grade 2). Cathryn Sophia’s only loss was a third place finish in the 1 1/16 mile Ashland (Grade 1) at Keeneland in Lexington, Ky., on April 9.

Weep No More won that race by a neck over Rachel’s Valentina who finished a neck ahead of Cathryn  Sophia.

In the Kentucky Oaks, Rachel’s Valentina finished sixth as the 5-2 favorite and Weep No More came in seventh at 6-1 odds.
