With budding superstar Mohaymen as the main attraction, today is shaping up as a memorable and potentially rewarding Fountain of Youth Day at Gulfstream Park.

Mohaymen, unbeaten in four starts with three wins in stakes, will be the overwhelming favorite in the $400,000 Fountain of Youth (Grade 2) at 1 1/16 miles on dirt for 3-year-olds.

The Fountain of Youth has a six-horse field is the 12th race with scheduled post of 5:30 p.m.

The Fountain of Youth is a major prep for the 1 1/8 mile Florida Derby (Grade 1) at Gulfstream on April 2 and for the Kentucky Derby (Grade 1) at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky., on May 7.

On Jan. 30 at Gulfstream. Mohaymen won the 1 1/16 mile Holy Bull (Grade 2) by 3 ½ lengths over Greenpointcrusader (not in the  Fountain of Youth).

Mohaymen is owned by Shadwell Stable, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and will be ridden by regular jockey Junior Alvarado.

The other horses in the Fountain of Youth field are Fellowship, Zulu, Golden Ray, Awesome  Speed and Awesome Banner.

The Fountain of Youth is part of the Rainbow 6 on which there is a carryover of almost $1.9 million.

The sequence is on the eighth through 13th races.  It is possible that as much as $1 million could be added to the Rainbow  6 today.  Details may be found on our blog.

Gulfstream also will have a guaranteed pool of $200,000 on the Late Pick 4 and of $100,000 on the Late Pick 5.

We will have  race previews and on-site coverage starting later this morning on our blog.
