Gulfstream Park and Tampa Bay Downs will both have live racing Wednesday through Sunday this week.
Tampa Bay is usually dark on Thursdays. Next week it will revert back to its regular four-day race schedule of Wednesday followed by Friday through Sunday.
Gulfstream’s regular schedule is Wednesday through Sunday. This Saturday is one of its biggest days of the year with the Fountain of Youth (Grade 2) for 3-year-olds and seven other stakes races.
Tampa Bay’s next day of stakes racing is March 12—its annual Festival Day topped by the Tampa Bay Derby (Grade 2) for 3-year-olds.
The Fountain of Youth and Tampa Bay Derby are major preps for the Kentucky Derby to be run May 7 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky. First post is usually 12:25 p.m. at Tampa Bay.
This week first post at Gulfstream is 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday through Friday and again on Sunday. First post is 12:00 p.m. this Saturday.
The Fountain of Youth has a $400,000 purse and is 1 1/16 miles on dirt. The winner will receive 50 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby. Second through fourth place are worth 20, 10 and five points respectively.
Mohaymen, unbeaten in four starts, is the likely heavy favorite for the Fountain of Youth. On Jan. 30, he won Gulfstream’s 1 1/16 mile Holy Bull (Grade 2) by 3 ½ lengths over Greenpoint Crusader who is expected to run back in the Fountain of Youth.
Fellowship, third in the Holy Bull, also is expected back for the Fountain of Youth. Awesome Banner, Zulu, Awesome Speed and Cherry Wine also are likely starters.

Gulfstream has racing on Wednesdays through Sundays during its winter meet that ends April 3.
In addition to live racing, Gulfstream has: * Simulcast wagering — seven days a week with more than 30 thoroughbred and harness tracks; open for simulcasting from 11 a.m. until approximately 11 p.m.
* Casino — the two casino rooms are open from 9 a.m. to 3 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays and 24 hours on Fridays and Saturdays
* Poker — 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays, and 24 hours on Saturdays and Sundays.

Tampa Bay Downs will have four-day race weeks for most of its meet that will extend through next May 8. Race days will be Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
There are three exceptions. It will have racing on Thursday Feb. 18 and Thursday Feb. 25 and be dark on Easter Sunday, March 27.
On days when it does not have live racing, Tampa Bay Downs is open for simulcasting and its poker room and golf range are open their regular hours.
