Friday Preview: Off the Turf at Tampa Bay; Gulfstream on Turf Today, with Donn on Saturday

HorseracingFLA Staff Report

Racing is off the turf today at Tampa Bay Downs, which has a ten-race card with first post of 12:25 p.m.

The dirt track is listed as good.  The sixth, eighth and tenth races were scheduled for turf but have been moved to the dirt.

At Gulfstream Park today, the dirt track and turf course  are both listed as good.

First post is 12:35 p.m. for the 11-race card.  There is only a 20 percent chance of rain this afternoon in South Florida.  Thus, it is likely that the five scheduled-for-turf races will stay on that surface.

Gulfstream has a $460,818 carryover today on the Rainbow 6 on the last six  races.  Details may be found on our blog.

On Saturday, Gulfstream will have six stakes races, including the $500,000 Donn Handicap (Grade 1) at 1 1/8 miles on dirt for 4-year-olds and up.

The stakes, with scheduled post times, are:

*Fourth race (1:25 p.m.) — $75,000 Ladies Turf Sprint, 5 furlongs, F&M 4-years-old and up

*Fifth race (1:54 p.m.)–$100,000 Fred W. Hooper (Grade 3), one mile on dirt, 4-YO and up
