Friday, July 24 — More than usual, today will be a day of two-track handicapping at Gulfstream Park.
Gulfstream will have ten races, with first post time of 1:15 p.m. There are no stakes races. But there is the attraction of a $30,896 carryover on the Rainbow 6.
Today also is opening day at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. First post is 1:00 p.m. for a ten-race card. As usual, the full card will be simulcast at Gulfstream.
It will be the first day for Larry Collmus as Saratoga track announcer.
Collmus has been the track announcer for Gulfstream’s winter meets since 2007, and he is retaining that job. He also has taken the duty as track announcer at Belmont Park.
Pete Aiello is in his second straight season as the track announcer for Gulfstream’s spring and summer meets and for its Gulfstream Park West (Calder) meet.
* On Saturday, Gulfstream will have two $75,000 stakes races. The Bear’s Den is 1 1/16 miles on turf fir 3-year-olds.The Monroe is one mile on dirt for fillies and mares 3-years-old and up.
