Friday, July 3 — Gulfstream Park has scheduled the following racing and Fourth of July weekend events beginning this evening.
Highlights will be a massive fireworks display from 9:15 p.m. to10:00 p.m. on Saturday evening and the Summit of Speed with nine stakes races on Sunday afternoon.
Friday July 3
* Family Fun Friday: From 7-9 p.m. in Champions Plaza in the Village at Gulfstream Park retail center; join DJ Koz and his special guests along with face painters, balloon artists and a caricaturist.
Saturday, July 4
* Live Thoroughbred Racing: Ten races, with first post time of 12:45 p.m.
* Food Trucks: Some of the area’s top food trucks stop by Gulfstream Saturday and Sunday between 2-6 p.m. The trucks will be located at the south valet entrance near Frankey’s Sports Bar.
*Family Fun: Magicians, face painters, balloon artists, coloring stations and air brush tattoo artists take over Champions Plaza beginning at 2 p.m.
*Ten Palms July 4 Buffet: Relax in Ten Palms from 6-9 p.m. before celebrating the fourth with a July 4 BBQ Buffet. It’s $19.95 for adults and $9.99 for children 12 and under. Meanwhile, after the last race, check out DJ Ozzy and have a cool cocktail at one of four satellite bars in the walking ring. Don’t forget to check out the weekend drink special, the Speed Demon, celebrating Sunday’s Summit of Speed.
*Gran Illuminations Celebrations: It’s time to celebrate the 4th with the Grand Illuminations Show, presented by Grucci, at approximately 9:15 p.m. The festivities in the walking ring continue until 10 p.m.
Sunday, July 5
*Live Thoroughbred Racing: This is the big day, the $1.175 million Summit of Speed with 12 races and first post time of 12:30 p.m.
* Victor Espinoza: The Triple Crown winning jockey, who piloted American Pharoah to become racing’s first Triple Crown winner in 37 years, will sign commemorative posters beginning at approximately 12:30 p.m.
*Summit of Speed: Purses totaling $1.175 million. Some of the best horses and top jockeys in the world will compete at Gulfstream, including defending winter riding champion Javier Castellano and Triple Crown-winning jockey Victor Espinoza. The Summit of Speed includes two Win & You’re In Breeders’ Cup races, including the $250,000 Princess Rooney (Grade 2) and $250,000 Smile Sprint (Grade 2).
