Thursday, June 18 – Joes Blazing Aaron shot out to the lead and was never headed as he won today’s feature race at Gulfstream Park.
He beat Gala Award by 1 1/4 lengths in the $62,500 allowance/optional claiming race with a purse of $42,000.
Oklahoma Den, in his first stakes start, finished third. He was the only horse in for a tag among the six entrants. He was not claimed.
Joes Blazing Aaron was ridden by Edgar Prado and won in the fast time of 1:33.67 on the course listed as firm.
It was the fourth win in ten Gulfstream turf starts for Joes Blazing Aaron., a 7-year-old gelding. One of his Gulfstream wins was in the 2011 Palm Beach Stakes (Grade 3).
Joes Blazing Aaron was the 3-5 favorite.
Grand Tito, who also would have gone off at low odds, and Aire Bueno were scratched by order of track veterinarians.
Joes Blazing Aaron’s career runs the gamut from being claimed to running in graded stakes in Florida, New York and California.
He spent the past winter at Santa Anita in Arcadia, Calif. under trainer Bob Hess Jr.
In his previous start, on April 28, Joes Blazing Aaron finished seventh in the Last Tycoon (Grade 3) on turf at Santa Anita.
The ownership group headed by Looch Racing then transferred Joes Blazing Aaron to Gulfstream and trainer Peter Walder.
