Sunday Preview: Off Turf at Gulfstream

HorseRacingFLA Staff Report
Racing is off the turf at Gulfstream Park this afternoon.

The five races that were scheduled for turf at Gulfstream will be run on the dirt track that is listed as good. First post for the ten-race card is 12:35 p.m.

We will have periodic reports on our blog

Hallandale Beach, the locale of Gulfstream, was among the South Florida cities that had heavy rains on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Gulfstream on Saturday moved four of its five scheduled turf races to the dirt track that was at first listed as good. The track was sealed from the fouth race onward, and was downgraded to sloppy prior to the eighth race.

Saturday was opening day for Gulfstream’s 2015-2016 championship meet, and also the site of this year’s national Claiming Crown.

Royal Posse, the 9-5 favorite, won the featured $200,000 Claiming Crown Jewel that was run as scheduled at 1 1/8 miles on dirt. Mr Palmer, at 21-1, finished second.

Both horses are trained by Rudy Rodriguez, who shipped them down from New York.

Later today on this Web site, we will have a more detailed report on the Claiming Crown results.
