Dreams Cut Short Win Lifts Vitali into GP West Trainers Lead

Dreams Cut Short, trained by Marcus Vitali, beat Aire Bueno by 1 ½ lengths in Friday’s feature race at the Gulfstream Park West meet.

Dreams Cut Short was ridden by Matt Respoli and won the one mile turf race in the solid time of 1:36.38 on a course listed as firm. It was a $62,500 optional claimer with a $40,000 purse.

The win by Dreams Cut Short was the fourth for Vitali at the GP West meet and put him into the lead in the trainer standings.

Friday was the ninth day of the meet that Gulfstream Park is holding at Calder Casino & Race Course in Miami Gardens.

GP West will have ten races today with first post of 1:15 p.m. There are no stakes races. Conditions are fast and firm, and there is only a ten percent chance of rain in the forecast.

In Friday’s race Rompin’ Reid finished third, a neck behind Aire Bueno, with Good and Proper another neck behind in fourth place in the eight-horse field,

The first four finishers all raced in stakes at Gulfstream this summer and it is likely that all four will race in turf stakes during the GP West meet that ends on Nov. 29.

We will have an expanded report on Dreams Cut Short’s win in our GP West Weekend Roundup story on Monday.

* There was one winning ticket Friday in the Rainbow 6 – for $23,799.54.

GP West will begin a new Rainbow 6 pool on Saturday. It will be on the fifth through tenth races, starting at 3:27 p.m.

The Rainbow 6 is a 20-cent per combination only bet that requires picking the winners of the day’s last six races.

At the Gulfstream Park West meet and at its own track, Gulfstream pays out the full Rainbow 6 pool (day’s bets plus carryover) only day when there is just one ticket with all six winners.

On other days it divides 70 percent of the day’s pool (minus the 20 percent takeout) among tickets with the most winners and puts the other 30 percent into a carryover for the next racing day.
